Asbestos Surveys
Helping You Eliminate Harmful Materials
Asbestos is a common name for a series of six different fibrous minerals that were commonly used in buildings for years due to their ability to resist heat, fire, and electricity. While these fibers are microscopically small and extremely strong, they have also been found to have extremely detrimental health effects. These small fibers can be released into the air, where they are inhaled into your lungs, creating scar tissue that causes health problems, such as mesothelioma. While modern buildings are constructed using asbestos-free materials, older buildings may still have these materials present, and those materials could be causing a serious problem with your indoor air quality.
American Environmental Group brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our clients when dealing with indoor air quality and hazardous materials. We have conducted thousands of surveys for both residential and commercial buildings and offer a wide range of Asbestos Services including, but not limited to, Bulk Sampling, Air Sampling and Personal Monitoring, Air Monitoring, Air Clearances, Project Design, and Hazardous Materials Management. We also prepare and update Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Plans to identify and characterize the hazardous conditions of commercial buildings.

Asbestos Frequently Asked Questions
How do you know if there is asbestos in the building materials on my property
(such as floor tile/mastic, ceiling tile, roofing, wallboard, stucco,
plaster, etc.)?
Unfortunately, this isn’t exactly easy. By nature, asbestos is odorless,
tasteless, and invisible, which means it can be hard to detect when fibers
are simply floating around in thin air. At
AEG, we take an air sample and have it analyzed at a NAVLAB-certified laboratory.
The EPA recommends that you perform an asbestos assessment on any materials
you suspect of containing asbestos if they are damaged or if you are planning
on doing work that would otherwise disturb the material.
When remodeling or repairing a property, should you be concerned about
asbestos in the building materials?
Figuring out if your home, office, or other building contains asbestos
isn’t possible just by looking at it with your eyes—asbestos
and asbestos-free materials often look exactly the same and even trained
experts can’t always tell them apart. If you suspect that the building
in question contains asbestos materials, the EPA recommends that you have
the property sampled by a Certified Asbestos Consultant. At American Environmental
Group, we can provide this service as well as recommend a solution for
effectively eliminating asbestos-containing materials.
What are the health risks if I have asbestos in my home, building, office,
or school?
A common misconception is that the mere presence of asbestos is harmful.
In fact, asbestos-containing materials that are left undisturbed and in
good condition are unlikely to present any form of a significant health
risk. The risk doesn’t emerge until these materials are damaged
or disturbed, at which point the material releases these fibers into the
air where they can be breathed in. However, just because your property
has an asbestos-containing material doesn’t necessarily mean you’re
at risk for poor health or serious conditions like mesothelioma. In any
case, it’s best to have these materials removed in order to ensure
that your property remains safe.
