WHAT IS MOLD AND WHY YOU SHOULD CARE

There have been a number of high profile mold cases resulting in millions of dollars in litigation costs. Today, the general public is more aware and rightfully concerned about this issue. Here at American Environmental Group (AEG) we can help you understand the true facts about mold so that you may protect yourself and your greatest investments.

Molds, a member of the fungi family, occur in the natural environment. Molds are simple ubiquitous microscopic organisms that amplify under desired conditions, requiring; (1) Cellulous-based organic foods; (2) Suitable temperatures; and (3) wide spectrum of moisture concentrations. In order for molds to grow, all three criteria referenced above are required. As mold colonies develop and mature on various substrates, they generate spores that upon disturbance are released. The tiny microscopic spores eventually become airborne in search of new optimum locations (wood, dust, wallboard etc.) to colonize.

Since mold spores are ubiquitous and can eventually land on any substrate, it has been suggested that to prevent mold growth, it is critical to control moisture. When moisture intrusion occurs in human habitations, mold growth can start to amplify within 24 to 48 hours. Often times mold amplification is not visibly noticeable. Mold amplification can occur inside wall cavities, interstitial ceiling voids, under floor carpeting or other hidden locations.

An experienced professional consultant, familiar with molds in buildings along with moisture intrusion knowledge is often needed to determine the extent of fungal contamination, if any. At AEG our consultants and Industrial Hygienists rely on scientifically based methods to determine the proper course of action required to address your concerns.

During our inspection, our highly trained consultants can conduct a variety of diagnostic tests to help determine whether your building or residence poses a potential health hazard due to fungal contamination. Depending on your specific needs, the analysis may include taking air samples, surface samples, or other methods. Subsequent to the site inspection findings and the laboratory results, our qualified panel of experts will prepare a proper plan of action to address your concerns and ultimately return your property to its pre-impacted conditions.

AEG’s remediation plans include detailed instructions on proper removal and disposal of water impacted and mold contaminated building materials based on the currently accepted industry standards and any applicable State or Federal regulations. AEG’s remediation plans also include proper isolation of contaminated areas to prevent the potential for any cross contamination of unaffected areas within the structure.

Following the completion of the remediation activities, AEG will provide a post remediation/quality assurance report that will confirm the residence or building is back to pre-existing conditions. This report is also very valuable to complete real estate transactions and for any litigious concerns. AEG is one of the most respected and reputable industrial hygiene/environmental consulting companies in our the industry and we will make sure that your valuable assets are protected.
